As repeat clients, the Coles Island couple were familiar with the team of BNA and Nutter & Cognac. This was the fifth home designed for family members. It was to be the fourth residence designed by Ben Nutter and built by his brother’s company.
The site is on Essex Bay, with stunning views across this tidal body of water to the rear side of Crane Beach, Choate Island, and Conomo Point. When approaching the home down a long, wooded driveway, the bay is not visible until one walks through the front entry door. At this location, a guest is looking across one of the longest vistas of Essex Bay. The experience is remarkable. To take advantage of this 180-degree view - scape, the team at BNA collaborated with the owners on a home suited to capture this panoramic view. On the 1st floor, a lengthy porch allows for casual gathering adjacent to the interior spaces. Some portions are screened for bug protection. On the interior, the living and sleeping spaces are arranged along the porch, allowing indoor spaces to enjoy the same views afforded to those on the porch. The family can swell to over 20 people depending on the number of children and grandchildren who are visiting. En suite bedrooms are for couples and a bunk room with an adjacent “Jack & Jill” bathroom accommodates the grandchildren. The family enjoys a variety of boating activities, and a rebuilt pier allows for easy access to the bay and other local Atlantic Ocean fishing and boating adventures. This home is the hub of summer activities and beyond.
